Your writing is yours.
- Never used to train AI. Not by Inkhaven, and not by OpenAI, the AI service that handles AI requests: its terms rule it out.
- Never sold, never used for ads. We don’t sell your information and Inkhaven has no ads.
- Without an account, it never leaves your browser. With one, it’s stored only so you can reach it on your devices.
- AI only when you ask. Journal entries start with AI off; nothing is sent to an AI service unless you turn it on for that document.
Inkhaven is a place to write. We collect only what we need to run it. Inkhaven is run by [COMPANY], [ADDRESS] (“we”, “us”).
Writing without an account
You can write in Inkhaven without signing up. Those entries are saved only in your web browser, on your device. They are not sent to us or anyone else, and AI features are off. If you clear your browser’s data or use another device, those entries are gone and we cannot recover them. If you later create an account or sign in on that browser, Inkhaven copies those entries into your account and removes them from the browser.
What we collect when you have an account
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address and name | To identify your account and contact you about it |
| Your password, stored only as a one-way hash | To let you sign in with email |
| Your name, email and profile picture from Google or LinkedIn, if you sign in with one | To create and sign in to your account. We never get your password for those services |
| Your documents, journal entries, titles, collections, saved versions, personal dictionary and settings | To store and sync your writing; this is the service |
| The AI suggestions you accept or reject, with the original text | So you can review every AI change under More → AI changes |
| AI request records: the type of request, its size, timing and which AI model handled it (never the text) | To count your monthly AI allowance and keep the service reliable |
| Your plan and subscription status, and a customer ID from our payment processor | To provide paid plans (Inkhaven Plus and Pro) |
| Your time zone | To open the right day’s journal entry |
| Basic technical logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address and browser type | Security and troubleshooting |
We do not collect your payment card details; our payment processor, Stripe, handles them directly.
AI features
AI is optional and set per document. Journal entries start with AI off. When AI is on for a document and you ask for help, or turn on automatic suggestions or proofreading, Inkhaven sends the AI provider only what that request needs: usually the text near your cursor or your selection, plus the document’s title, topic, chosen writing style and personal dictionary. Proofreading sends the document in sections. Your name and email are never sent.
AI requests are processed by OpenAI, under its own terms, and may be processed outside your country. We do not use your writing to train AI models, and OpenAI’s terms do not allow it to either.
Who we share information with
We share information only with providers that help us run Inkhaven, and only what each one needs:
- [HOST]: hosts the app and stores your account and writing.
- OpenAI: processes AI requests, as described above.
- Stripe: processes payments for paid plans.
- Google, LinkedIn: only if you choose to sign in with them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Inkhaven, in which case this policy still applies to your information. We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
Cookies and browser storage
Inkhaven uses a sign-in cookie to keep you signed in, a cookie for your time zone, and browser storage for your theme, layout and an offline copy of the document you’re editing. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and writing for as long as you have an account. Documents you move to the Recycle Bin stay there until you empty it or restore them. When you delete your account, we delete your writing and account information within 30 days, except billing records we must keep by law. Backups are overwritten within 90 days.
Your choices and rights
You can view, edit, export and delete your writing in Inkhaven at any time, and delete your account in Settings → Account. To ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or that we stop processing it, email [CONTACT EMAIL]. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law.
Children
Inkhaven is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live (16 in some EU countries), you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access limits. No service is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you by email or in Inkhaven before the change takes effect.
